With the conclusion of the 2017 FIS World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain, the United States is taking center stage as the host nation for the bi-annual event. Utah ski destinations Deer Valley Resort, Park City Mountain and Solitude Mountain Resort will host skiing and snowboarding events during the 2019 FIS Freestyle, Snowboarding and Freeski World Championships, scheduled for Feb. 1-10, 2019.
Since the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Utah has established itself as one of the World’s premier centers for winter action sports, hosting two previous World Championships as well as multiple FIS World Cups and Toyota U.S. Grand Prix. The 2019 World Championships will feature over 25 different medal events across eight sports, making it the largest winter sports event Utah has hosted since the Games. The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA), in partnership with the Utah Sports Commission, Park City Municipal Corporation and the host resorts, are working to maximize the impact of the event both domestically and globally.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) announced today that Solitude Mountain Resort will host the snowboardcross and ski cross events for the 2019 FIS Freestyle and Snowboard World Championships. In preparation for the World Championships, Solitude will host a test event, featuring a snowboardcross World Cup and ski cross event, Jan. 19 – 22, 2017. The test event will be the second stop on the U.S. Grand Prix tour for the 2016-17 season.
The World Championships, awarded to Utah in 2014, is scheduled for Feb. 1- 10, 2019 and will bring the best freestyle, freeskiing and snowboarding athletes to three resorts in the Wasatch mountains. In addition to the events at Solitude, Deer Valley Resort will host aerials, moguls and dual moguls, and Park City Mountain will host halfpipe and slopestyle snowboarding and freeskiing.

Yes, that sounds obvious - we eat when we're hungry, duh. However, that's not the hunger the annual Taste of the Wasatch aims to end. For over a decade, the quintessential Wasatch dining event takes over the lawn at the base of the Solitude Village with Utah's finest chefs, cases of wine, local beers and dozens of desserts in the name of ending childhood hunger.
If you're thinking this concept sound a tad ironic, you're right. Eating copious amounts of gourmet food to raise dollars and awareness for charity is dripping in irony. Think of the Taste of the Wasatch weekend as an opportunity to help those less fortunate: from silent auction items available at the event, to time and resource donations.
This four-hour Sunday event also allows for the opportunity to chat with the chef's, learn which wines (or beers) pair with what types of foods and take in the fresh mountain air. It's no secret food tastes better at altitude, so you have to have a plan to fit it all in. Yes, this sounds rather gluttonous, but it's for charity! I've perfected this art, though it took ten years of trial and error to dial in the right program. We like to make a weekend of it in the Solitude Village, staying Saturday and Sunday nights, if possible.
